What are tessellated tiles?

What are tessellated tiles made from?

Tessellated tiles are made from fully vitrified porcelain, which means they absorb less than 0.5% of their weight in water. This makes them incredibly strong, long-lasting and resistant to scratches, impact, acid and moisture. Full-bodied tiles (where colour runs through the entire tile) are especially valuable in high-traffic areas.

Where are your tiles made?

All of our tessellated tiles are designed and manufactured on-site at our Sydney factory. This system ensures consistent quality and allows for customisation based on your design requirements.

Can I mix tessellated tiles with other tile styles?

Absolutely. You can blend tessellated patterns with subway tiles, mosaic borders or decorative accent tiles. This approach allows for creative expression while maintaining cohesion. Our team can guide you through combinations that work both aesthetically and structurally.

What is the role of borders in tessellated tile design?

Borders frame the main tessellated pattern and define the geometry of the space. A simple border can stabilise a busy pattern, while a decorative border can act as a feature. All Tessellated Tile Factory (TTF) borders are adjustable in width by modifying rectangular strips, making them flexible for different layouts.

How are tessellated tiles installed?

Installation is done piece by piece using sand and cement screed. A minimum joint size of around 1 mm is maintained, and tiles must be carefully centred to keep the pattern symmetrical. Due to the complexity of the designs, installation requires careful planning and precision to achieve the best result.

Are tessellated floor tiles low maintenance?

Yes. Their non-porous surface requires only minimal cleaning with a neutral pH solution. They do not absorb allergens, emit fumes or require sealing (if porcelain). This makes them ideal for both busy households and allergy-sensitive environments.
